“Diagnostic”
There are many reasons why people want to come America I would say many people want to come to visit, study or live in the United States because they want to look for their new life.
The United States is a free and big country. No matter where you are going, you will feel relaxed. Therefore, most people want to live in the States. In this culture, people feel that education is better than in other countries. Therefore, they will come to study in the United States and learn more about their culture or technology, then they can reflect to their own countries. They can also improve their English skills while they are living in America.
Because people are in different classes all around the world, it is not really affordable for everyone to come to study or live in the States. However, like Kohls said we must understand “the basic beliefs assumptions, and values of that particular group”.

"Deborah says, "But I always have thought it was strange, if our mother cells done so much for medicine, how come her family can't afford to see no doctors? Don't make no sense" (page 9). Should the family be financially compensated for the HeLa cells? If so, who do you believe that money should come from? Do you feel the Lackses deserve health insurance even though they can't afford it? How would you respond if you were in their situation?"
In my opinion, Lacks’ family should have been financially compensated for the HeLa cells. I also believe that the compensation should come from Johns Hopkins Hospital. In fact, HeLa cells were taken from Henrietta Lacks’s tissues without her permission. Henrietta just knew that she had some problems inside her body thus she went to Hopkins Hospital to see a doctor. She died in 1951 and she never knew that her tissues were studied and were used in the experiments after her last exams with Dr. Jones. It is unbelievable that her cells are still alive in this world and she is very famous in scientific areas.
In addition, I agree that it doesn’t make sense that the Lacks’ family can’t afford to see a doctor although her mother’s cells can be so much help to people all around the world. At this point, I strongly feel that it is unfair to the Lacks’ family who did not receive any health benefits or insurance from Johns Hopkins Hospital. I would suggest that Hopkins should establish the “HeLa Charitable Foundation”. Therefore, Lacks’ family can get more benefits from the Foundation rather than being unable to afford to pay for their medical care. At the same time, I believe the Foundation can also help other different people apart from medical research.
In conclusion, I believe I should be concerned about the treatment(s) that the doctor will give and also prefer to get more advice or information from other doctors if I were in Lacks’s situation. Furthermore, it is important that patients should let their family know all about their situation(s) before treatments because family members are the most important people in our lives. Finally, I completely agree that this is the right of which the patients and their family should know about and agree on during or after their treatment(s).

“A visit to an Amusement Park”
Last summer, I went to Disneyland with my family. Disneyland is one of the most famous amusement parks in the world. People of all ages like to go there because there is a very strong atmosphere that makes you feel like you are going back to your childhood. There are several kinds of theme parks for visitors in different age of group. On the first day of my trip, we visited Magic Kingdom which is a huge theme park and we spent the whole day there. We ate a delicious breakfast in the park restaurant and we spent time to take photos with many famous characters like Mickey and Minnie, Winnie the Pooh and so on. We also watched the “Lion King” show in a theatre. That was a pretty good show on stage and I liked it. In addition, we played many games in Fantasyland which is for the lower ages kids. At night, we finished our dinner then we watched the ‘nighting parades’. Later, we watched the fireworks which were the last event of that day. Overall, I felt this trip provided good memories for us. We had a lot of fun and wonderful time with family. I believe that we will visit there again in the future.
"Research: Going Beyond the Associate's Degree"
On February 26, I attended the second week of common read event called “Going Beyond the Associate’s Degree” which was presented by English 101 students. There were five sessions of presentation. At first, I learned about Genetic and DNA Research. These students were doing several presentations which included the meaning of DNA and those cells are contains ‘Pros and Cons’. Second, Stem Cell Research and Cloning highlighted some information about the difference between cells, stem cells and HeLa cells. In addition, students provided the details of benefits and problems caused by stem cells. Next, students presented the Healthcare Reform and Insurance that told us about the benefits of healthcare in United States. They also mentioned their points of view about Lacks’ family or other black people who suffer the same problems that they couldn’t afford healthcare and were afraid to go to the hospital. After that, during Hospice and Palliative care, I learned from this section that ‘Hospice’ is a Latin word and it means temporarily ill. Palliative care provides patients with treatments to relieve pains, symptoms stress and it improves their living. In contrast, the book said that Henrietta felt very painful without any specific care after her treatment. Finally, the topic is about Medical Ethics and Patient Rights, which tells us that hospitals should give consent to patients on any operative procedures. Students also listed examples of racism issues that if black people got sick, it was difficult to find a hospital that would accept them because of segregation. They also shared some points of ethical or unethical to take Henrietta Lack’s cells for medical research. Overall, I was interested in this event because those presentations were touched base with the book and many other fields of studies like biology, sociology and political science.
